Our Story

Help Veterans in Hillsborough County

HCVHV was founded by Mike O’Dell, a veteran who turned a short-term military commitment into a lifelong mission. Together with a board of 10 dedicated volunteers, HCVHV has grown into an essential resource for veterans across Hillsborough County.

We provide timely, temporary, emergency assistance to local needy veterans as a last resort, bridging the gap with Federal, State, and County programs.

Assistance covers rent and utilities. Max per veteran is $600, paying the bill directly so the veteran can be self-sustaining the following month.

We are 100% volunteer-run, with no paid officers or Board members. 95% of what we raise goes directly to support veterans and their families, covering counties touching the border of Hillsborough County.

We strive to provide emergency payments directly to landlords after veterans are served with Three Day Notice of Eviction or to utility companies after veteran received disconnection notices with little to no red tape to help veterans avert crises.

Serving in the military was supposed to be a short-term commitment, but helping my brothers in arms became a life-long journey. I’m so fortunate to be able to impact the lives of others, all while partnering with some of the most passionate and driven philanthropists and veterans in Hillsborough County.
